1b: Graphs as Models
Responsibilities for CSCI 2540

Assessment of competence

Here, the student is expected to put the ability to use and to demonstrate not only competence in its use but also competence in choosing where to use it. The student's competence is assessed.

The setting for student learning
CSCI 2540 requires students to solve several programming assignments, at least one of which involves using graphs to model a computational problem.
Rubric
Good. In a designated programming assignment, the student defines appropriate data types or classes that implement graphs, and uses those data types or classes in a sensible way for the problem.

Satisfactory. In a designated programming assignment, the student defines appropriate data types or classes that implement graphs, and attempts to use them in a sensible way but makes some mistakes in that aspect of the solution.

Unsatisfactory. A student's work is unsatisfactory if it does not meet any of the above criteria.

Goal
At least 70% of students who pass CSCI 2540 are rated either satisfactory or good, and at least 30% are rated good.
