Introduction and initial assessment

Here, the topic is introduced and student learning is assessed.

The setting for student learning

In CSCI 3030, students have to work together on a team project. They are required to set rules about team communication, schedule (at least) weekly team meetings, and attend these meetings regularly. They also learn about effective teamwork in the class, and are required to answer exam questions related to forming effective teams.

Rubric
Good. Students score a composite of 2.5 on teamwork-related questions on the exam (normed from 0 to 3 points). The student project documentation includes a clear communication policy, and their project report and status reports clearly show that tasks have specific owners and that team members are meeting at least once a week.

Satisfactory. Students score a composite of 2.0 on teamwork-related questions on the exam (normed from 0 to 3 points). The student project documentation includes a communication policy, and their project report and status reports clearly show that most (over 80%) of tasks have specific owners and that team members are meeting at least once a week, with at most 4 weeks where this is not the case.

Unsatisfactory. A student's work is unsatisfactory if it does not meet any of the above criteria.

Goal
At least 75% of students who pass CSCI 3030 are rated as either satisfactory or good. At least 25% of students who pass CSCI 3030 are rated as good.
